Elisa posts 6.2% increase in revenue in 1Q22

25 Apr 2022

Finland-based Elisa Corporation has published its financial results for the quarter ended 31 March 2022, claiming to have had ‘a good quarter in a challenging environment’. In the three-month period under review the company recorded revenues of EUR511 million (USD552 million), representing a 6.2% year-on-year increase against 1Q21, attributed to growth in turnover from mobile and digital services. It also noted that lower usage and subscriptions of traditional fixed (PSTN) services, as well as a decline in interconnection and roaming, had affected revenue negatively.

Meanwhile, Elisa reported that EBITDA in 1Q22 totalled EUR177 million, compared to EUR170 million in the corresponding period a year earlier, saying that efficiency improvements and revenue growth had impacted EBITDA positively. EBIT was up by 9.1% y-o-y, at EUR111 million. Net profit was also up marginally, totalling EUR88 million, compared to EUR82 million in 1Q21.

With regards to operational indicators, Elisa reported a total mobile subscription base of 4.943 million as of 31 March 2022, up from 4.808 million a year earlier, of which the lion’s share – 4.249 million (Mar-21: 4.143 million) – were attributable to its domestic unit, with the remainder being those signed up to its Estonian subsidiary. Group-wide, fixed broadband subscriptions numbered 659,000 at 1Q22, down from 679,000 a year earlier, with 554,000 of the most recent figure being in Finland, down from 567,000 at end-March 2021. Traditional fixed voice subscriptions also continued on a downward trajectory, falling to just 73,000 as of 31 March 2022, down from 84,000 a year earlier.
