19 Apr 2022

US vendor Parallel Wireless has confirmed that it is in Brazil partnering with the National Institute of Telecommunications (Instituto Nacional de Telecomunicacoes, Inatel), the Telecom Infra Project (TIP), regional ISP Brisanet, and national mobile operators Claro, TIM, and Vivo to conduct an Open RAN field trial using the 2600MHz band.

TeleGeography notes that the TIP is a global community of companies and organisations working together ‘to accelerate the development and deployment of open, disaggregated, and standards-based technology solutions that deliver the high-quality connectivity that the world needs’. Inatel, meanwhile, is an education, research and technology development centre that was created in 1965 and located in Santa Rita do Sapucai, southern Minas Gerais, also known as Brazil’s ‘Electronics Valley’, due to its thriving electronics industry.
