Globe achieved three-fold increase in FTTH connections in FY21

12 Apr 2022

Globe Telecom said it rolled out 1.4 million fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connections across the Philippines last year as fibre capacity improved by 38.6% and end-user subscriptions climbed by 36.5%. In a statement on 11 April, the telco said its aggressive fibre rollout programme capitalises on the fact that the technology offers a more effective and reliable way to deliver ultra-high speed internet compared to legacy copper-wire options. ‘We continue to invest in this area as we see huge potential to expand our fibre footprint nationwide,’ Barbie Dapul, Globe At Home VP for Marketing, was cited as saying. In FY22, meanwhile, Globe is setting aside PHP89 billion (USD1.7 billion) in CAPEX to accelerate the FTTH rollout, build new mobile cell sites, upgrade existing sites to 4G LTE and ramp up its 5G deployment.
