Baktelecom expands network in Baku

Azerbaijan state-owned regional operator Baku Telephone Communication (Baktelecom) has expanded the coverage area of its fibre-optic services in the Surakhany district of Baku by deploying a new GPON network with capacity for 1,600 users in the Dede Gorgud housing estate. To date, 600 households previously served by copper lines have been migrated to the GPON network and 300 new subscriptions connected, providing them with access to fixed broadband download speeds of up to 100Mbps. In addition, the operator has begun deploying fibre-optic infrastructure in Yeni Surakhani municipality and the Gushschlug housing development in Hovsan municipality, with the aim to provide telephony and high speed broadband services to 12,000 users in these areas by the end of the year.
