Telenet opens 5G network to BASE customers

6 Apr 2022

Belgian mobile network operator BASE has announced that post-paid subscribers with a compatible handset will be able to access 5G mobile services at no extra cost from 18 April. Its parent company Telenet launched the 5G network in December 2021, with services initially limited to areas around Antwerp, Leuven and the coast as part of a progressive rollout targeting coverage of other major cities in the Flanders region and motorways during 2022. During the launch phase, BASE will limit 5G data transfer rates to 150Mbps download and 35Mbps upload, as is already the case for Telenet customers. Residential and small business customers with one of the operator’s current post-paid subscriptions can activate 5G in the My BASE app. The operator claims about 16% of its subscriptions currently have a 5G compatible device.
