Etisalat UAE tests multi-vendor VoNR

30 Mar 2022

Etisalat UAE, the domestic division of United Arab Emirates-based group e& (formerly Etisalat Group), has announced the world’s first successful deployment and testing of a live end-to-end multi-vendor Voice over New Radio (VoNR) ecosystem. The demonstration was carried out in collaboration with Ericsson and Huawei. VoNR calling uses a 5G Standalone (5G SA) network to offer lower latency and improved voice quality.

Ekow Nelson, Vice President of Ericsson Middle East & Africa, said: ‘Over the past years, voice calling has become a key service in the UAE. As the UAE is driving ever more digitalisation powered by 5G, high quality and seamless voice calling will become a must-have service for residents across the nation. With the launch of Etisalat UAE’s first VoNR service, we are proud to play a continued role in helping the UAE realise its digital transformation objectives.’
