NBN Co makes FTTP upgrades available to 50,000 more FTTN premises

23 Mar 2022

Australia’s NBN Co is inviting more than 50,000 customers that are currently served by its fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) infrastructure to upgrade to fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) technology ‘on demand’. Further, the operator expects to increase the number of premises that can upgrade from FTTN to FTTP to 230,000 by ‘mid-year’, a figure that it said will increase to around 600,000 by the end of 2022. Looking further ahead, by the end of 2023 up to two million premises currently served by FTTN are expected to become eligible for an on-demand FTTP upgrade.

NBN Co notes too that it is on track to have made its ‘Home Ultrafast’ plans – which offer downlink speeds of almost 1Gbps – to a total of eight million premises across the country by the end of 2023. At present more than 4.4 million premises are said to have access to these tariffs, comprising around 2.4 million which can connect via HFC and further two million that have access to FTTP technology.
