Altice Dominicana 5G network now live

23 Mar 2022

Altice Dominicana switched on its 5G network in selected locations at the end of last month, it has been confirmed. The 3.5GHz network went live in Santo Domingo and Santiago de los Caballeros.

The launch came roughly a week after the Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones, Indotel) agreed to upgrade a 3.5GHz fixed wireless access (FWA) licence held by Altice to support mobile services. Altice paid USD2.8 million to upgrade the 3470MHz-3500MHz concession on 17 February.

Back in October 2021 Altice paid USD20.7 million for an initial 70MHz block of 3.4GHz-3.5GHz spectrum in Indotel’s 5G auction. The first batch of 5G frequencies were formally awarded to the cellco on 28 October.
