Chilean telecoms group Entel has agreed to sell four of its data centres to US-based group Equinix in a transaction that valued the assets at a combined total of USD736 million. The sale included three data centres in Chile – valued at USD662 million – and one in Peru (USD74 million). The sale is expected to close in Q2 2022. Further, as part of the transaction, Entel agreed service contracts with Equinix along with a commercial agreement to jointly address the Chilean market.
Regarding the sale, Entel CEO Antonio Buchi was quoted as saying: ‘The decision to sell these data centres is due to the permanent evaluation we make regarding the strategic value of the infrastructure we operate and the need to focus resources on those businesses in which Entel can make a real difference and add value to its customers and shareholders. This, in addition, allows us to focus on attracting and developing talents that work on the new solutions that our clients require.’ As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, Entel is also pursuing the sale of its fibre-optic network infrastructure.
