17 Mar 2022

Santa Catarina-based ISP Unifique has announced the takeover of Proserver Telecomunicacoes, which trades as Sygo Internet. The acquired company is valued at BRL134.5 million (USD26.2 million), although the purchase price increases to BRL226.2 million when including the net debt that will be assumed by Unifique.

Launched in 2007, Sygo Internet currently serves customers in 65 cities in Rio Grande do Sul and presides over a 5,000km fibre backbone that crosses 120 municipalities in the state, which is located in the southernmost part of the country. Sygo currently serves approximately 80,000 fixed broadband subscriptions, of which 88% are based on fibre-optic technology. (Note: Unifique’s home state of Santa Catarina borders Rio Grande do Sul.)

According to industry watchdog the National Telecommunications Agency (Agencia Nacional de Telecomunicacoes, Anatel), Unifique served a total of 477,510 fixed broadband subscriptions as of 31 December 2021, up from 273,443 one year earlier, and equivalent to a market share of 1.2%.
