German giant Deutsche Telekom (DT) has initiated an auction process for its towers business and expects indicative offers in the next couple of weeks, reports Reuters citing three anonymous ‘sources with knowledge of the deal’. DT is working with Goldman Sachs as advisor in the sale of 40,600 telecom masts which could value the business at about EUR18 billion (USD19.9 billion) according to the sources. DT has said it is in the process of reviewing several options for the tower business. Reuters adds that the German group is looking to cut its debt mountain of over EUR130 billion and free up funds for network investment and to consolidate control of its T-Mobile US subsidiary.
