Telekom, set to agree open access fibre deal

Telekom Deutschland has announced plans to sign a long term open access agreement with regional operator Under the agreement, Telekom would be able to market its products to customers within’s fibre-optic expansion area from the end of 2022. currently supplies almost 205,000 households in the Hamburg metropolitan area via its fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network, with the number of homes connected expected to rise to around 350,000 by 2025. In the next step, both parties will quickly advance the contract negotiations and intend to sign the cooperation agreement in the first quarter of the year.

In April last year Telekom announced that it would supply around 540,000 households in Hamburg with fibre-optics by 2025, although this in-house development is concentrated on areas that have not yet been developed by, thereby avoiding overbuilding existing FTTH infrastructure.
