edotco buys 1,000 cell towers from XL Axiata

Malaysia-based tower company edotco, a subsidiary of Axiata Group, has confirmed the acquisition of some 1,000 towers from Indonesian cellco XL Axiata for approximately IDR750 billion (USD52.2 million). The deal will be carried out through its local unit, PT edotco Infrastruktur Indonesia. it is understood that the tower operator will acquire 859 towers through a sale and leaseback and enter into a managed service arrangement for an additional 162 sites, with a significant build-to-suit potential with XL Axiata – itself majority-owned by Axiata Group – specifically across all the major islands of Java, Sumatra, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Eastern Indonesia.

Upon completion of the deal, edotco will have a presence in nine markets across Asia, with a portfolio of over 50,000 owned and managed towers under its operations.
