BIPT publishes guidelines for ‘unlimited’ internet plans

25 Feb 2022

Telecoms regulator the Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT) has published guidelines clarifying the use of the term ‘unlimited internet’. Although the BIPT acknowledges that operators should be free to set fair usage policies (FUP) to ensure high quality internet services for all customers, it believes the term ‘unlimited’ should only be applied to subscription plans with data allowances that enable the vast majority of customers to access the internet without any speed restrictions. The BIPT believes the FUP should be set at a monthly data allowance of 3TB for fixed broadband packages and 300GB in the case of mobile internet subscriptions.
