Ooredoo Kuwait has announced the commercial launch of a new voice-over-Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) service which it says ‘delivers faster call setup and superior high-quality HD voice calls.’ The company previously announced a VoWiFi launch in May 2021 implemented by the Ooredoo Business division. VoWiFi is now available to all Ooredoo Kuwait individual customers with pre-paid and post-paid voice plans for no additional fees, enabling voice/video calls and SMS over a Wi-Fi connection, thereby giving a better call quality in locations with weak mobile network signal, and avoiding dropped calls. Users in high-rise residential buildings, basements, offices and remote company branches were identified as likely to benefit from the new service. Smartphones can transfer a call between the mobile network and a Wi-Fi network automatically without any interruption of the call.
Ooredoo added that ‘voice and internet calls will be charged according to the [user’s existing] package, and without the need to download any application.’ VoWiFi is currently available on iPhone 6 or later models, Apple Cellular Watch (OS 8.3 or later), Huawei P and Mate series 30 and above, OnePlus (10 and later), as well as Honor 50 series devices, with other devices from makers including Samsung and Xiaomi joining the list soon.
