Globe reports 1.62m registered devices on 5G

8 Feb 2022

Filipino fixed and mobile operator Globe Telecom has reported a 35.2% month-on-month increase in data traffic on its in-deployment 5G network, and noted that in FY 2021 it carried 6.71 petabytes of data on the fledgling network. With total CAPEX hitting PHP65.4 billion (USD1.27 billion) in the first nine months of 2021 – a sizeable portion of which was set aside for 5G – the company noted that it now has over 1.62 million devices registered on its fifth-generation network, while coverage has been extended to 96% of Metro Manila and 84% of ‘key’ cities on the two main island groups of the archipelago, Visayas and Mindanao. The telco has lit more than 2,000 5G cell sites and upgraded 12,900 towers, of which over 1,400 cell sites are in Luzon, over 300 are in the Visayas, and over 230 are in Mindanao.
