T-Mobile begins 900MHz 3G migration in Poland

2 Feb 2022

T-Mobile Poland has confirmed that it has begun switching off 3G services in the 900MHz band, with work started at 56 base stations in three provinces. The cellco plans to use the freed spectrum to improve data speeds on its 4G and 5G networks. It says only 3% of data traffic is now carried via its 3G system, with usage dropping steadily. It plans its final 3G shutdown next year and is urging customers with SIM cards over seven years old to get a free 4G-capable replacement from a T-Mobile store, while they can also have their handset checked for 4G compatibility. T-Mobile has already stopped using the 2100MHz band for 3G services, having completed its migration in October 2021.
