Competition authority greenlights ALBtelecom takeover

20 Jan 2022

Albania’s Competition Authority (Autoriteti i Konkurrences, CAA) has authorised the sale of an 80.27% stake in full-service provider ALBtelecom from Cetel Telecom – part of Turkey’s Calik Holding – to Hungarian ICT group 4iG. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in December 2021 4iG signed an agreement to acquire a majority interest in the telco via a multi-step transaction that will result in Calik Holding acquiring a 3.2% stake in 4iG as an institutional investor. The value of the deal was not disclosed. The deal was quickly followed later that month by another acquisition, with 4iG inking a pact to takeover mobile provider ONE Telecommunications.
