Curacao regulator evaluating three mobile licence applications

14 Jan 2022

Curacao’s Bureau of Telecommunication and Post (Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post, BT&P) has disclosed on its website that it is evaluating three applications from prospective mobile network operators (MNOs) to compete with incumbents Digicel and UTS/Flow. A moratorium on new facilities-based telecoms licensing in Curacao was lifted last April, and BT&P subsequently accepted applications between 21 October and 31 December 2021 with the aim of issuing a third MNO concession in 2022. In its latest announcement the regulator says that the evaluation in cooperation with the Minister of Traffic, Transport and Urban Planning will focus on technical, financial and administrative aspects, and is expected to conclude within two to three months.
