United Group has finalised its takeover of Greek fixed and mobile operator Wind Hellas. The transaction, first announced in August, was cleared by EC competition authorities last month. The group plans to combine Wind with its wholly-owned Greek ISP and pay-TV subsidiary Nova (formerly Forthnet) to create a fully converged operation.
United Group says it has spent EUR1.4 billion (USD1.6 billion) in the Greek market so far and plans to invest a further EUR1.3 billion over the next five years. The addition of Wind Hellas means the group now serves 4.7 million revenue generating units (RGUs) in Greece and 15.2 million across its entire footprint, which also includes Bulgaria, Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia.
