NBN Co calls on ACCC to closely monitor any functional separation of TPG Telecom

A plan by TPG Telecom to functionally separate has been given the tentative backing of NBN Co, though the latter has called for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commssion (ACCC) to closely police the conditions of such an arrangement.

According to ITNews, in a submission to a consultation regarding the matter, NBN Co said that it viewed the undertaking lodged by TPG as being ‘broadly appropriate’, though it did seek assurances in specific areas. One request was for TPG’s separation undertaking to be explicitly worded so as to ‘remove the opportunity for TPG’s retailers to have inappropriate access to sensitive wholesale [or] network build information’. In addition, NBN Co was reported to have requested that all TPG staff receive compliance training on how to operate in a functionally separate manner, rather than just a subset of the operator’s staff.
