7 Jan 2022

All of China’s administrative villages were connected to broadband services by the end of November 2021, Xinhua writes. Xie Cun, a senior official at the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) was quoted as saying at a press conference that the development is a ‘historic achievement in solving the communication difficulties in poor areas’, adding that it would ‘provide solid internet support for China’s rural vitalisation and modernisation’. The government has invested more than CNY22 billion (USD3.45 billion) in the development of communications networks in rural and remote regions since 2015, a spokesperson for the finance ministry added. Beijing plans to continue to provide policy and financial support for the improvement of rural internet infrastructure and the promotion of digital development in rural areas.
