Indosat launches 5G services in Balikpapan

Mobile network operator (MNO) Indosat Ooredoo has announced the launch of commercial 5G services in Balikpapan, a port city on the island of Borneo, East Kalimantan. The company said the launch marked its ongoing commitment to deploy the next generation of cellular services, having already deployed 5G in Solo, Jakarta, Surabaya and Makassar.

Commenting on the launch, the MNO’s president & CEO, Ahmad Al-Neama, said: ‘We hope that 5G technology will accelerate digital transformation in Kalimantan, especially to support the preparation of Indonesia’s new capital city, Penajam Paser Utara, which is located near Balikpapan. We hope that this launch will also significantly increase the competitiveness of industries in the region.’
