Verizon notches up 14,000 new mmWave cell sites

10 Dec 2021

Verizon has announced that it has exceeded its year-end target of 14,000 new ‘5G Ultra Wideband’ millimetre wave (mmWave) cell sites in service, providing connectivity to parts of 87 US cities. Fixed wireless ‘5G Home’ services are available to parts of 65 cities, meanwhile, while ‘5G Business Internet’ access is offered in parts of 62 cities.

Verizon notes that this ‘aggressive expansion’ nearly doubles the previous two years of mmWave rollout activity combined. In addition, 5G Ultra Wideband data usage has increased by more than 750% in the year to date.

Going forward, Verizon is optimistic that its planned C-band 5G deployment will cover 100 million additional customers before the end of March 2022.
