Vodafone NZ completes 32 cell site upgrades/builds, announces VodafoneTV closure

9 Dec 2021

Vodafone New Zealand has revealed it completed the deployment or upgrade of 32 cell sites in November as part of its regional investment programme, despite heightened COVID-19 health and safety requirements. This included seven new Vodafone owned mobile sites, eight additional Rural Connectivity Group (RCG) towers and upgrades to 17 existing Vodafone base transceiver stations (BTS). The company highlighted its efforts to improve mobile and wireless broadband coverage were focused on the Bay of Plenty area, although new sites and upgrades were also deployed in the Canterbury, Manawatu-Wanganui and Waikato regions.

The operator also announced its VodafoneTV platform is no longer available for new customers and will close on 30 September 2022, due to what it described as the ‘rapidly changing content landscape’. Vodafone NZ will contact impacted customers directly to advise them on the closure and help them transition to alternative solutions such as Smart TVs, Chromecast, Freeview or Sky.
