DIGI completes rural fibre project; reports 90% mobile coverage

8 Dec 2021

DIGI Hungary announced on its website the completion of a three-year network development project to connect 16 rural/regional centres with over 2,000km of new backbone fibre-optics connected to its central Budapest headquarters, providing end-to-end fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) 1Gbps services to all connected towns. DIGI has also recently made near-10Gbps ‘Fiberlink 10G’ internet services available on certain sections of its network.

DIGI also announced that its mobile network – launched in 2019 under the DIGIMobil brand – has reached coverage of more than 900 settlements, providing ‘outdoor coverage to almost 90% of the population’. TeleGeography notes that DIGI reported 84% ‘outdoor voice’ GSM coverage a year ago.
