Office des Postes et Telecommunications de Nouvelle-Caledonie (OPT-NC), New Caledonia’s state-run national PTO, has revealed that is has connected a total of 28,000 customers to its fibre-optic network. Rollout of the network began in 2015 with the aim of replacing its copper infrastructure with fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) nationwide by 2025. According to OPT-NC, around half of homes and businesses in the country are now passed by the fibre-optic network. The firm added that around 1,300 of its fibre customers subscribe to its ‘OPTimo THD’ plan which offers speeds of up to 1Gbps.
