Claro Dominicana has announced that it has activated 5G connectivity in 29 locations across the Distrito Nacional. The locations covered at launch have been named as Bella Vista, Centro Olimpico, Ciudad Colonial, Ciudad Nueva, Don Bosco, Ensanche La Fe, Ensanche Naco, Ensanche Quisqueya, Gazcue, Jardin Botanico, Julieta Morales, La Agustina, La Esperilla, La Julia, Los Jardines, Los Millones, Los Prados, Mata Hambre, Nuestra Senora de la Paz, Paraiso, Piantini, San Carlos, Viejo Arroyo Hondo, Villa Consuelo, El Eden, Guaricano, Sabana Perdida, Santa Cruz and Villa Mella. Going forward, the telco expects to extend 5G to Greater Santo Domingo, Santiago, La Romana and other cities ‘very soon’.
As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in October Claro Dominicana was named as one of the winning bidders in the Dominican Republic’s 5G auction. Claro submitted the largest bid, offering USD53.111 million for a 70MHz block of spectrum in the 3.3GHz-3.4GHz band.
