Datagroup modernises backbone with Cisco

2 Dec 2021

Ukraine’s Datagroup has launched a national project to modernise its backbone network with US-based technology provider Cisco, based on Routed Optical Networking and Converged SDN Transport solutions designed for higher throughput with greater security and reliability, combining DWDM/IP networks and systems into a single automated infrastructure for improved operational efficiencies.

Datagroup’s network traffic increased by 35% in 2020 and a further 30% in 9M21, with the pandemic a large factor in driving demand upwards, prompting the operator to scale up its backbone. CEO Mikhail Shelemba noted: ‘As part of the first stage to modernise our network, we have a fully operational central hub in Kyiv built on Cisco equipment which has already increased the resiliency of our network and significantly improved the level of service for our corporate customers. For home subscribers, access to more capacious internet channels and faster speeds is gradually becoming easier. We expect the completion of the first stage of modernisation by the end of the year.’
