Telenor Sweden has sold off its wholesale fibre operation Open Universe as well as its single dwelling unit (SDU) fibre assets to GlobalConnect Sweden. The acquisition includes approximately 200,000 connected homes on Open Universe’s platform and 14,000 connected homes via Telenor Sweden’s SDU fibre infrastructure.
Telenor says it will focus on the provision of mobile, fixed broadband and pay-TV services, using Open Universe as a wholesale partner going forward. The telco added that the purchase price was SEK3 billion (USD333 million) and the transaction is expected to generate a profit before tax of SEK1.7 billion. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Telenor had almost 700,000 fixed broadband subscriptions in Sweden at the end of September 2021.
