NTRA issues final approval for mobile trio’s use of 2.6GHz spectrum

23 Nov 2021

Egypt’s National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has reportedly given its final approval for the use of new spectrum by three of the country’s mobile network operators (MNOs), namely Vodafone Egypt, Etisalat Misr and Telecom Egpyt. According to local press outlet Ahram Online, which cites a statement issued by the regulator, all three cellcos will now be able to utilise the frequencies in the 2.6GHz band that they acquired back in December 2020.

With the NTRA suggesting use of spectrum in this band will enable operators to expand the capacity of their networks and improve service quality of service, the regulator has said it expects to see improvements from early 2022.

As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in November 2020 Vodafone, Etisalat and Telecom Egypt announced that their respective offers for 2.6GHz frequencies had been accepted by the NTRA and subsequently formally signed for the new concessions the following month.
