Swisscom boosts fixed download speeds with ‘5G Internet-Booster’ device

19 Nov 2021

State-owned telco Swisscom has introduced a new offering that allows customers to utilise the operator’s 5G and 4G mobile networks to improve fixed broadband connection speeds. According to Swisscom the service uses a ‘5G Internet-Booster’ device to combine the user’s existing copper-based fixed connection with the fastest available mobile network, providing downlink speeds of up to 600Mbps – although the operator notes that that figure will rise to 1Gbps in H1 2022. The service is available for a one-off payment of CHF149 (USD161) for the device, with no additional monthly charges.
