Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel), the Sultanate’s incumbent telecoms operator, reported revenue of OMR1.802 billion (USD4.7 billion) for the first nine months of 2021, a decrease of 3.1% from OMR1.859 billion in the year-ago period, as domestic turnover fell 3.2% to OMR396.9 million due to a decline in pre-paid mobile revenue amid disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Group EBITDA declined by 2.7% year-on-year to OMR738.1 million in 9M 2021, while group net profit rose 0.2% from OMR167.7 million in the first nine months of 2020 to OMR168.1 million a year later. Domestic net profit, however, fell by 2.3% y-o-y to OMR54.7 million, although Omantel noted that a continued focus on cost optimisation measures helped to manage the decline in profitability despite the revenue decrease.
Omantel reported a total of 3.303 million fixed and mobile subscriptions (excluding mobile resellers) at 30 September 2021, an increase of 0.5% from 3.286 million twelve months earlier.
