17 Nov 2021

Telekom Romania Mobile Communications has extended its spectrum user rights in the 2100MHz band until the end of 2031, reports Economica.net. Speaking during an online press conference following publication of the company’s Q3 results, CEO Dina Tsybulskaya confirmed the mobile network operator (MNO) paid EUR25 million (USD28.4 million) on 15 November to extend its 3G concession in the band beyond January 2022.

The telco also revealed that 5G tests conducted using its current spectrum and 5G antennas deployed between Bucharest International Airport and the city centre had achieved top speeds of over 300Mbps and average downlink rates of approximately 150Mbps, depending on the handset, app and network traffic. Although rival MNOs Orange, Vodafone and RCS&RDS (DIGI) all launched 5G commercial services during 2019, Telekom has yet to announce plans to activate its own 5G network.
