12 Nov 2021

Egyptian mobile operator Etisalat Misr is planning to invest between EGP5 billion and EGP5.5 billion (USD317.5 million and USD349.3 million) in its operations in 2022, roughly matching its spending in 2021. The company’s CEO Hazem Metwally was quoted as saying in an interview with CNBC Arabia that the operator plans to continue improving and developing its services and invest in future technologies such as IoT, artificial intelligence, cloud computing and smart city services. The official went on to note that the introduction of 5G is ‘important’ but ‘must come after the full exploitation of [4G] technology, which still enjoys high growth opportunities’. Nevertheless, the company is ready to begin providing 5G services in the New Administrative Capital and it will be one of the first to begin offering services when the technology is launched commercially in Egypt, the CEO added.
