Filipino carrier Globe Telecom has revealed that under its ongoing 5G network rollout programme, fifth-generation coverage has been intensified in Visayas and Mindanao, with new sites added in Bacolod City, Boracay, Iloilo City, and Cagayan de Oro City (CDO), and including tourist destinations in Malay, Aklan. News portal Business World cites an e-mail statement from the company dated 29 October in which Globe confirmed the upgrade of 180 sites in CDO to boost 5G coverage in 30 key locations across the city. The statement noted that as part of plans to improve its customers’ experience, Globe completed the site upgrades of its legacy 3G network to 4G LTE in the four cities/municipalities outlined as of September 2021. Broken down, Globe reportedly expanded 84 sites and built 13 5G towers in Bacolod; upgraded 111 sites and deployed 5G in eleven locations in Iloilo City; and upgraded 32 sites in Balabag, Manoc-Manoc and Yapak, and switched on 5G in three barangays. Globe now has 1,759 5G sites across the country and 8,175 mobile sites that have been upgraded.
