America Movil 3Q21 revenues down 2.6% to MXN253.4bn; net income drops 16.4%

Mexico City-based telecoms giant America Movil (AM) has reported total revenues of MXN253.375 billion (USD12.5 billion) for the three months ended 30 September 2021, down 2.6% year-on-year from MXN260.212 billion in 3Q20. EBITDA for the quarter under review, meanwhile, climbed 1.3%, from MXN86.501 billion to MXN87.590 billion. Finally, net income for 3Q21 plummeted 16.4% from MXN18.902 billion to MXN15.811 billion on an annualised basis.

In operational terms, AM ended the third quarter with a total of 301.928 million mobile subscriptions, up 7.6% from 280.722 million twelve months earlier; Mexico-based Telcel remains the operator’s largest mobile unit, claiming 79.315 million subscriptions at that date. Elsewhere, ‘fixed line and other accesses’ (RGUs, including fixed voice, fixed broadband and pay-TV subscriptions) stood at 80.604 million at end-September 2021, a 0.4% decrease from 80.953 million in 3Q20. Claro Brasil accounted for the highest number of fixed RGUs, with 31.600 million subscriptions as of end-September.
