Tucows and Ting in Tucson tie-up

19 Oct 2021

Toronto-based Tucows has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Simply Bits, the largest fixed-wireless network service company in Tucson, Arizona. The acquisition will be made via Ting Internet, the company’s US fibre subsidiary. As part of this deal, Ting will assume control of all of Simply Bits’ existing infrastructure and customers, gaining approximately 4,500 customers, 1,100 square miles of established fixed-wireless network and a small fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) footprint. The acquisition is subject to regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions and is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2021.

TeleGeography notes that Tucows offloaded its US MVNO subsidiary Ting Mobile to DISH Network on 1 August 2020 but retains a presence in the fixed broadband market via Ting Internet. FTTH services went live in Charlottesville, VA in 2014 and are now available in 13 towns and cities.
