RailTel, C-DoT sign MoU on network modernisation

15 Oct 2021

State-backed telecom infrastructure provider RailTel Corporation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) – a government-owned research firm under the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) – to work together on the modernisation and expansion of communications networks. The Economic Times cites RailTel CMD Puneet Chawla as saying that the synergy between the two entities would help provide affordable broadband services to the masses in rural areas by lowering the cost of equipment, as it will all be manufactured in India using C-DOT’s own technology. Operating under the Ministry of Railways, RailTel operates a pan-India fibre network built alongside railway track, currently spanning more than 60,000 route kilometres.
