Belizean operator Belize Telemedia Limited (BTL, trading as Digi) has provided an operational update for the year ended 31 March 2021. In the company’s 2020/21 Annual Report it notes: ‘The decommissioning of our legacy copper network continues and will be completed within the next twelve months.’
51 – or over 60% – of the operator’s legacy copper switches have been decommissioned to date, with customers migrated to the fibre network; 31,000 fixed broadband subscriptions are now connected via FTTH. Further, fibre services generated the lion’s shares of the telco’s annual revenues, contributing BZD62.1 million (USD30.1 million) of the BZD141.3 million top-line sales total.
In terms of mobile connectivity, Digi says it served 194,000 mobile subscriptions as of 31 March 2021, via 140 LTE cell sites.
