DISH selects Spirent to test and validate 5G core

13 Oct 2021

DISH Network has selected Spirent Communications to autonomously test its 5G network core and validate its performance. The contract with Spirent will allow DISH to verify 5G functionality, measure system performance and accelerate its deployment activities. DISH, which is partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) on cloud infrastructure, is set to become the world’s first telecoms operator to run its service on the public cloud.

TeleGeography notes that DISH has previously stated its intention to commence consumer beta testing of its planned 5G network in Las Vegas in 4Q21. As per FCC documentation, DISH has promised to deploy a 5G core network and infrastructure covering 20% of the population by 14 June 2022. Coverage must be increased to 15,000 cell sites and 70% of the US population by June 2023.
