Globe Telecom conducts 5G SA network tests

28 Sep 2021

Globe Telecom is holding live tests of 5G standalone (SA) technology as it looks to explore use cases for its customers. The Filipino operator kicked off on-site 5G SA tests in May this year but yesterday (27 September) revealed that the technology is now being used in a live setup in its facility in the city of Makati. Going forward, the company plans to expand into other parts of Metro Manila and beyond, it said. Globe is also looking to migrate users to 5G-ready devices so they can experience ultra-high speeds on its in-deployment 5G non-standalone (NSA) architecture. Its NSA-based 5G service is already live in more than 1,854 cities/municipalities across the country.

Commenting on the development, Globe President and CEO Ernest Cu said: ‘Globe is creating new possibilities with 5G SA. We are all set to leverage these enablers to make our 5G value proposition more compelling and competitive. 5G SA will allow us to do more services for multiple industries with new business models.’
