Russian cellular market leader Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has built two pilot 4.9GHz 5G network zones in Moscow for Sberbank. The first zone inside the bank’s new Kutuzovsky Prospekt headquarters will enable users of compatible 4.9GHz 5G smartphones to connect to unlimited high speed internet and digital services, while the second 5G pilot zone near Sber’s offices on Andropova Avenue is additionally ‘designed to test wireless services of the Sberbank ecosystem, including unmanned solutions for transport, where connection reliability, low latency and high data transfer rates are critical,’ a press release stated.

Andrey Zimenkov, MTS B2B Commercial Director, commented: ‘Sber is our key partner and client, for whom we have built a pilot public 5G network, providing not only access to high speed mobile internet and Sber services, but also opportunities for research in the field of ecosystem solutions. We expect that mutually beneficial cooperation in the creation and operation of fifth-generation networks will enrich MTS and Sberbank with new competencies in the implementation of breakthrough technologies that will be widely demanded by our customers tomorrow.’
