Chunghwa Telecom to accelerate 5G network rollout

Taiwan’s Chunghwa Telecom (CHT) has announced plans to accelerate its 5G network deployment, with the Taipei Times reporting it aims to have installed 12,000 5G base stations by the end of 2021, up from the 10,000 currently in operation. According to the local press report, the cellco is expecting capital expenditure to total TWD43.1 billion (USD1.55 billion) this year, with TWD15.7 billion of that earmarked for the construction of its mobile network. Meanwhile, CHT has also suggested that the number of 5G subscriptions it has will rise to around two million by the end of this year.
