Vi conducts 5G trials on 26GHz, 3.5GHz bands

Indian cellco Vodafone Idea (Vi) has conducted trials of 5G technology in the cities of Pune and Gandhinagar using spectrum in the 26GHz and 3.5GHz bands. The operator and its vendor partners achieved downlink speeds of more than 3.7Gbps over the millimetre wave (mmWave) frequencies, whilst tests on the 3.5GHz band reached download rates of 1.5Gbps.

Commenting on the development, Vi CTO Jagbir Singh was quoted as saying: ‘We are pleased with the speed and latency results in the initial stages of the 5G trials on the government-allocated 5G spectrum bands. Having established a robust 4G network pan-India, delivering fastest 4G speeds and a 5G-ready network, we are now testing the NextGen 5G technology to be able to bring a truly digital experience for enterprises and consumers in India, in the future.’
