TFL removes public payphone charges countrywide

20 Sep 2021

Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL), the country’s de facto monopoly provider of local and national long-distance telephony, and the sole operator of the PSTN, has said that Fijians will now be able to make free calls from its public phone booths to any TFL landline or to an emergency number. In an initiative to promote ‘greater community’ Fiji Village cites the provider’s CEO Charles Goundar as saying the new measure will provide ‘a free and handy service that would be of genuine use to Fijians during these uncertain times’. Goundar noted that TFL has generated 25,000 minutes of calls through its network of payphones over the last 18 months demonstrating they still form a core role in providing communications – especially during times of national emergencies (e.g. cyclones).
