UFINET has announced the successful completion of its acquisition of Rio de Janeiro-based NB Telecom, following the fulfilment of certain local and legal conditions. UFINET notes that NB Telecom’s integration plan is well developed and will be fully implemented within the next two months. In the meantime, NB Telecom’s network has been completely integrated with UFINET’s terrestrial infrastructure in Brazil, via three diverse and completely separated underground routes between Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.
In addition, UFINET says it has commenced the construction of a new underground route between the Recreio dos Bandeirantes area of Rio de Janeiro – which is home to a high concentration of submarine cable land stations – and downtown Rio, connecting the main data centres and points of presence (PoPs) in the city.
TeleGeography notes that UFINET currently operates more than 75,000km of optical fibre in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay, Argentina and Chile.
