15 Sep 2021

Russian cellular market leader Mobile TeleSystems (MTS) has increased the number of 4.9GHz 5G user pilot zones in Moscow, from 14 to 19, while increasing the pilot zones’ total coverage area threefold. In March 2021 MTS introduced the user pilot 5G network in the 4.9GHz (n79) frequency band in 14 popular locations in Moscow, and this month it has opened five new pilot zones: in Vozdvizhenka Street/Alexandrovsky Garden; Taganskaya Square; Kievsky Railway Station Square; Victory Park on Poklonnaya Gora; and on Malaya Dmitrovka Street. Six existing pilot coverage zones were expanded.

MTS subscribers with 5G 4.9GHz-compatible smartphones can use unlimited 5G internet in the designated zones with data speeds ‘up to 1.5Gbps’ and ‘minimal’ network latency.
