Ethiopia’s Ministry of Finance (MoF) has published a request for proposal (RFP) for the partial privatisation of the country’s monopoly telecoms provider, Ethio Telecom. Having laid out the framework under the Public Enterprises Privatisation Proclamation No.1206/2020, the Ethiopian government confirmed in its RFP that it is proposing to sell 40% of the equity share capital of the telco.
The MoF has invited proposals for the stake in the telco from ‘interested parties who can add value to the company by bringing in best practices in terms of operations, infrastructure management and next generation technological capabilities’. Would-be bidders are required to pay a USD20,000 non-refundable fee and submit a confidentiality undertaking.
