XL Axiata announced at the weekend (11 September) that its ongoing 4G LTE rollout on the island of Sumatra west of Java, has now reached a further 114 villages across a dozen districts in Rokan Hulu regency. Noting that demand for data is ‘moderately high in this area’, increasing ‘by 338% in the last two years’, the cellco said that in addition to the expansion of services coverage, network development in this regency is also aimed at ‘improving network quality in areas previously covered and experiencing traffic increase’. The initiative is reportedly core to XL’s commitment ‘to enter the age of 25 in an effort to Build a Digital Indonesia’. As a result of its latest expansion drive, around 82% of all villages in Rokan Hulu Regency are now served by XL, supported by around 170 base transceiver stations (BTS), including around 65 4G BTS.
